Go Green!

Close to two and a half million weddings take place each year in the United States. With an average cost of $20-30,000 per event, weddings have a huge financial impact on the economy, and as one of the most consumptive, product- and service-oriented industries, the ecological footprint is also huge. With this information it is no wonder that interest in green weddings has grown tremendously. There are many ways that a planning bride can incorporate eco-friendly ideas into her wedding.

Eco-friendly Invitations. Send out save-the-dates and wedding invitations on tree-free or recycled paper. There are a multitude of companies that now offer a variety of eco-friendly options. A favorite I stumbled upon are these which are perfect for this upcoming summer season.

Say “I Do” To Green Rings. After founder Beth Gerstein's fiancé couldn't find a source for conflict-free diamonds, the couple took matters into their own hands. They started Brilliant Earth, a company that provides certified conflict-free diamonds as an alternative to the current diamond industry practices.

Give the Gift of Green. A fun way of getting your guests to participate in your “go green” mindset is to give them eco-friendly favors. My favorite find are these Wildflower Wedding Favor Bags that come in colorful, biodegradable packaging. Such a fun way to let your guests know that your “love is blooming!”

Let There Be (natural) Light. Getting married outdoors or in an area with ample natural light can conserve resources. Schedule your wedding for a time that allows for maximum lighting. If you are getting married during the warmer months, shelter you and your guests from the heat under a tent and decorate its poles with fresh wildflowers.

Happy, Happy Earth Day To You!!

Happy Earth Day my fellow readers!!! In celebration of this very special day, that's set out to recognize the beauty of our earth and conservation importance, I'd like to share an earth friend wedding resource.

I received an email from Martha with ecoparti on yesterday. She wanted to share her wonderful line of earth friendly products, and I would love to pass this information along. ecoparti offers wedding specific products such as Ecofetti™. What's Ecofetti™? You guessed it. It's biodegradable confetti that dissolves in water. You may view images of other couples use during their festive events on their website. ecoparti also offers things like rice paper napkins and freeze dried (non-staining) rose petals. I haven't had a chance to sample any of these products. If there's someone out there who has, please send us your review.

So from our Happy Earth Day to yours, take the time and do something earth friendly today! The world will smile and thank you for it. [cheers!]

Make a Difference... Anywhere... Anytime...

As a company our decision to "go green" was a very easy one. As the old saying goes, "Every little bit helps." Image the change we could make in our world if everyone gave a little.

Living green can be a life habit.
I would like to share with you a program, or website if you will, that we suggest to all of our honeymooners and destination wedding clients. Charity Guide offers a variety of ideas to give back. From home, from the office, or at a special destination you can commit to as little as fifteen minutes of your time. Wow! What if everyone gave fifteen minutes daily? Let's not set a goal that's unachievable. How about fifteen minutes weekly? The world would most certainly feel a positive change.

Destination couples often schedule a list of group activities or events. Why not schedule to give back through group participation at your destination? That would totally take the "Honeyteer" (turning a honeymoon into a volunteer experience) to a new level. Destination weddings averages between thirty and forty guests (different case studies may vary slightly). That's taking the giving from times two to times thirty or forty! What a way to make a difference on foreign ground?! This reminds me of another variation of Oprah's Big Give. Give once and it's something that continues to grow. It's the BIG picture in the end that melts my heart. We all have the same twenty-four hours in our day. It's what we do with it that makes the difference.

Take a look at the website and make a personal commitment. You'll be glad you did, and don't forget to tell everyone you know. Keep us posted. We'd love to hear about your efforts!
